Manager/Supervisor
The Safety Lead is responsible for overseeing day-to-day safety and security operations to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all staff, visitors, and volunteers; with emphasis on safety practices and environmental health protocols. This role serves as the primary point of contact for safety procedures, emergency response coordination, and incident management. Coordinates directly with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager and provides support for health and safety projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Oversight & Team Leadership
  • Supervise and coordinate safety volunteers, security personnel, or safety team members.
  • Serve as the on-site lead during services, events, and emergencies.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to ensure team readiness and professionalism.
  • Manage team training courses pertaining to medical, health and safety, wellness.
2. Emergency Preparedness
  • Maintain and implement emergency response plans (e.g., fire, severe weather, medical, active threat).
  • Conduct safety drills and training sessions for staff and volunteers.
  • Serve as liaison to local emergency services and coordinate response protocols.
  • Provides oversight for internal medical and incident reports.
  • Provides support for medical and safety projects for the ministry.
3. Risk Management & Incident Response
  • Identify safety risks and work with leadership to mitigate them proactively.
  • Respond to incidents in real-time and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
  • Review facilities, public areas, and event setups for compliance with safety protocols.
  • Provides oversight to facilities and events to ensure OSHA compliance, with direction from Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
4. Communication & Coordination
  • Maintain clear communication with ministry leaders, operations staff, and volunteers regarding safety procedures.
  • Ensure safety signage, first aid stations, evacuation maps, and equipment are properly installed and maintained.
  • Provide incident reports and updates to leadership as required.
5. Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain training records, inspection checklists, and incident logs.
  • Recommend improvements to safety procedures based on best practices and situational reviews.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Previous experience in safety, security, or emergency response (church, nonprofit, event, or corporate settings)
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and conflict de-escalation abilities
  • Basic First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
Preferred:
  • Background in law enforcement, military, or facility management
  • Experience leading volunteer teams
  • Familiarity with emergency planning and risk assessment tools
  • Familiarity with OSHA and facility safety protocols.
Physical & Schedule Requirements:
  • Able to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Available for weekend services, evening events, and occasional holidays
  • Able to lift 25–50 lbs. occasionally
